Thompson's regard for accessible, creative and unique instrumental
guitar music has led to producing four solo recording projects totaling
40 original tracks; a self-titled debut (2000), Set Your Sights (2001), Get On With It (2003) and more recently Starting Now (2007). This
collection of instrumental pop rock, loaded with layers of inventive
guitar textures and catchy melodies, is an accessible string of work
that combines unique tones with a classic pop rock backbone.
His influences range widely from classic 60s guitar music to the
fingerstylings of Adrian Legg to legendary studio wizard Todd Rundgren,
but the most common threads that run through his songs are the
infectious hooks, the catchy melodies and his fingerstyle approach to
playing. "As a young guitar player I was inspired by fingerpicking
guitarists in the pop-rock genre like Lindsey Buckingham and Mark
Knopfler. Later my influences included acoustic fingerpickers like
Adrian Legg and Leo Kottke. However my root preference is anyone who
produces timeless, original and unique pop rock instrumental music. I
believe my music reflects that."
Playing both acoustic and electric guitar for over 26 years, he ultimately became a devoted player of Godin Guitars,
a hybrid of electric and acoustic that blends the feel, touch and
characteristic ambient sound that he had been searching for in the
"perfect guitar".
Thompson, who resides in Leo, Indiana with his wife and two children, Indiana, is a full-time illustrator.
